Register now for Hauteans in Motion recreational ride

TERRE HAUTE — The St. Benedict Community Festival committee reminds bicycling enthusiasts of the Wabash Valley that “Hauteans in Motion,” Stage 2 of the Michelob Ultra Recreational Tour series, is scheduled for July 14 at St. Benedict’s Church.

Pre-registration forms for the July 14 Hauteans in Motion ride are available  at www.hauteans-in-motion.org. Pre-registration is $15 per person with a family rate of $25, if you register before July 4. On-site registration for the July 14 event begins at 7 a.m.

The website also has pictures of previous Hauteans in Motion rides, maps of each of the routes, and a copy of the registration form.

The ride features four different routes: a 10-mile ride which uses the National Road Heritage Trail; a 25-mile route which proceeds south past Idle Creek, circling through Riley with a return via the National Road Heritage Trail; and, the 50- and 67-mile routes which follow the southern route circling through Riley, Rosedale, concluding into the city on the National Road Heritage Trail.

SAG stops with drinks and refreshments will be located at Riley, Holy Rosary Church in Seelyville, Rosedale and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The rides are both challenging and enjoyable, passing through many scenic areas of Vigo County. The longer routes also provide good preparation for RAIN participants of the 160-mile ride on July 21.

Registration includes free admission to the St. Benedict Community Festival, a chance for the Lance Armstrong jersey, ride refreshments, a drink-sandwich-chips combo lunch at the end of the ride, as well as Budweiser promotional items and specialty drinks.

The first 50 registrants will get a free Michelob Ultra Recreational Tour Series T-shirt. Questions about the ride can be submitted via email at contactus@hauteans-in-motion.org, or call (812) 841-5020.

The final stage, the “Soggy Donuts Heroes Ride,” will take place on Aug. 18 at ISU’s Memorial Stadium.

The three-stage event began as an effort for the Terre Haute community to encourage and support bicycling, to showcase trails and roadways in the area, and to create a top-tier bicycle ride for the Wabash Valley.

Stage 1 of the series took place on March 18. The “St. Patrick’s Day Ride” was sponsored by the National Road Bicycle Club and Dever Distributing. The first event had good weather, and the 20- and 30-mile courses provided both challenging and enjoyable riding opportunities for more than 130 participants.

Tom Dever was on hand at the end of the ride to welcome riders, give away Budweiser promotional items and provide Budweiser specialty drinks to all participants.

Dan Weber and Jim McKinney, along with other members of the local bicycle club, laid out the courses and co-planned the event along with Kevin Gillen of the Dever staff.
