River City Art Association exhibit opens in Palestine

PALESTINE, ILL. — A River City Art Association exhibit opens July 31 at the Palestine Art Center, 110 S. Main Street in Palestine, Ill., with a reception at 4:30 p.m. CDT. The show will run through Aug. 28. In September, there will be a photography exhibition sponsored by The Palestine Development Group.

River City Art Association members currently in the news include Kit Fisher for her design acceptance to paint one of the cars for “Cruisin’ the Bash,” a Swope Museum project. Several members received awards at the Covered Bridge Art Association associates show held this month in Rockville, including Rob Robbins, runner-up for Best of Show for the photograph “Zacke Cox Bridge”; Debbie Anderson, first place for “Colorific,” wood inlaid (intarsia); Julie Bricker, second place for “Navajo Youth,” watercolor; and third-place awards went to Bricker for “Kristen Stewart,” colored pencil; Monty Jones “Hanging Around,” acrylic on wood; Jane Lubbehusen for her watercolor “Flow Blue”; and Rob Robbins for his photograph “Foggy Morn.” Honorable mention was awarded to Karen Levan for “Thunderheads,” one of her many equine paintings.

Members juried into the Swope Museum 66th annual Wabash Valley Exhibition on view through Sept. 4 are Ruthann Brady, Debbie Anderson, Peter Brunning and J. Henerer Burns.

Burns is also exhibiting at the 29th annual Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors. Burns’ painting “Pickups” is currently on view at the Watercolor USA Exhibit at the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Mo. Burns also has two paintings (“It’s still a cage” and “Uglingus”) published in “Splash  11,” a publication by North Light Books on the bookshelf now. This is her second publication. The first was in April 2003. Her works “Donald D.” and “The Pack” were winning entries in the cover contest and were published in Living Artists Magazine. Burns’ work has been juried into various regional, national, online and international shows by renowned artists such as Chen Khee Chee, Paul Jackson, Stephen Quillar, Daniel Green, John Salminen, Dean Mitchell, Don Getz, Carla O’Connor and others.  In June 2009, the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Mo., purchased the painting “Figalicious” for the museum’s collection. She is a signature member of the Watercolor Honor Society and an elite signature member of the Watercolor Art Society-Houston Chapter as well as a member of Watercolor West, The Arts Guild of Old Forge Inc., American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society.
