Bro-Fowler Duo featuring ISU faculty members to perform today

TERRE HAUTE — The Bro-Fowler Duo featuring Indiana State University School of Music faculty members Paul Bro and Kurt Fowler will perform as part of the Faculty Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. today in the Recital Hall of the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts.

This recital, “Music from South America,” will feature works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Alexis Bacon, Juan Ruiz, Alberto Ginastera and Astor Piazzolla. The Bro-Fowler Duo will be assisted by Anthony Lanman on acoustic and electric guitar and by Indiana State faculty member Ted Piechocinski on accordion.

The Bro-Fowler Duo has performed throughout the United States, including in Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., Minneapolis and New York City.

Formed in 1998, saxophonist Bro and cellist Fowler have sought to expand the repertoire for this unusual combination of instruments by commissioning new works. They have received grants for new works for saxophone and cello by outstanding composers: “Bid Call” by Libby Larsen, “Walking on Water” by Dorothy Chang, “Temple Fair” by Chinese composer Zhou Long, “Lake Reflecting Stars with Moonrise” by Augusta Read Thomas and “Fantasia Armorial” by Alexis Bacon.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the School of Music at 812-237-2771.
