Ryves Club plans kids’ carnival Sept. 15 at ISU Family Day

TERRE HAUTE — The Ryves Community Optimist Club will stage its 2nd Annual Cornhole Tournament and Kids’ Carnival Fundraiser on Sept. 15 at Indiana State University’s Memorial Stadium during the ISU Family Football Day.

“All of the proceeds from this event will benefit children who live in the Ryves community,” said Marsha Bialaszewski, fundraising committee chair.

The Cornhole Tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $50 per two person team. Teams who register in advance by email at klotzt@yahoo.com will receive a limited edition RCOC Cornhole Tournament T-shirt. Registration on the day of the event is from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m.

“The top three teams will receive trophies, and the first place winners will have their names placed on a plaque for future tournaments,” Bialaszewski said. The Club is also looking for tournament sponsors; sponsor information can be obtained by emailing klotzt@yahoo.com.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Troop 852 will serve walking tacos, Pepsi products and cotton candy at 11 a.m., and there will be games at the Kids’ Carnival for chances to win exciting prizes. The games will be 25 cents per ticket or five tickets for $1.

The Ryves Community Optimist Club was chartered on June 14, 2011, in response to the needs of the children in the Ryves neighborhood. During its first year, the Ryves Community Optimist Club acquired a new Bose sound system for the gymnasium and new security cameras for the Ryves Youth Center, sponsored Ryves Youth Center Boy and Girl Scout troop events, sponsored the regional Silver Gloves and Jr. Olympic Boxing Tournaments, coordinated an essay contest and purchased supplies for the Ryves Youth Center’s Champions Reading Program.

“There are many needy children in the neighborhood — let’s all do what we can to help,” said Dennis Bialaszewski, president of the Club.
