Parke County towns offer Milling days, Cornbread Festival Sept. 8, 9

Bridgeton in Parke County is planning its Milling and Craft Demonstration Days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Milling Days at the mill celebrates the birthday of Oliver Evans, the father of modern milling. Tour the Bridgeton Mill and see the 200-year-old French buhr stones grind corn into cornmeal and grits. Stock up on cornbread and pancake mixes made using the mill’s own organic stone-ground products.

Craft Demonstration Days at the 1878 House & Barn feature pioneer and modern crafters at work creating their wares. Learn how to make unique items. See woodworkers and bowl carvers, spinners, knitters and other fiber artists demonstrating and selling their items. Tour the 1822 Case log cabin and learn about how the early settlers lived.

Admission and parking are free.

The early autumn breezes along Big Raccoon Creek set the stage for Mansfield’s annual Cornbread Festival.

This late summer celebration in Parke County provides family activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Skip a stone over the creek, stroll the bridge or browse through the treasures at the shops in Mansfield Village.

Enjoy ham and beans and cornbread, a cornbread bake-off, the Roller Run Car Show and a free oldies concert.

Registration and judging for the car show is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three of each class. For car show information call 765-653-4026.
