Vote for favorites at Sept. 8 Chili Cook-off

TERRE HAUTE — Altrusa International of Terre Haute’s 30th annual Chili Cook-off kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The event will take place in Clabber Girl’s Festival Marketplace at Ninth and Cherry streets. Besides chili, festivities will feature a live auction at 2 p.m. and a beer garden.

A panel of culinary experts will judge each chili entry, with awards being given at 3:30 p.m. to the hottest chili and the best chili entered by individual teams and organizational teams. The People’s Choice Award will be given to the team that raises the most money in its tasting jar. The Showmanship Award will go to the best booth/team or theme presentation.

Proceeds from the Chili Cook-off go to support Wabash Valley literacy programs such as Vigo County GED Graduation, Wabash Valley Literacy Coalition’s Literacy Volunteer Recognition Event, Family Learning Day at Vigo County Public Library and the Vigo County Spelling Bee.

The funds also help purchase supplies for ISU Alternative Spring Break and the junior service group ASTRA.
