Oktoberfest offers 3 days of fun downtown

TERRE HAUTE — The Oktoberfest, a Wabash Valley tradition of hospitality, good food, drink and music offered by the German Oberlandler Club since 1973 returns Sept. 13-15 to the Clabber Girl Festival Marketplace, Ninth and Cherry streets. Admission is free.

The event will open at 11 a.m. Thursday with German music by members of the Brazil Concert Band. Hours for the three-day event are 11 a.m. to midnight on Sept. 13 and 14 and from 4 p.m. to midnight on Sept. 15.

Joe Polach with his St. Louis Express and Eddie Korosa and the Boys from Illinois are on stage with non-stop music each night beginning at 4 p.m. The two groups play country, old-time rock ’n’ roll, swing and novelty dances, such as the popular Chicken Dance, as well as traditional waltzes and polkas.

Club members prepare and serve German and American foods including the popular grilled brats, chicken, schnitzel, sauerkraut, German potato salad, apple strudel and other delicious desserts with take-outs available. German import and domestic beers, soft drinks, pretzels and popcorn complete the menu.

Festival proceeds fund the Frances Sanders scholarship program, youth sports and other community projects. Visit www.terrehauteoberlandlerclub.org.
