It’s ‘Tuna’ time at Vincennes theater

VINCENNES, IND. — It’s the Fourth of July in the little town of Tuna, Texas, and the temperature is not the only thing on the rise. Vera Carp is poised to claim her throne as the Tuna High School Reunion Queen, but will Didi Snavely and Pearl Burras give her the shock of her life?

The wedding of Bertha Bumiller and Arles Struvie is just a day away, but will an attack cat named Pinky rip them apart?

The answers to these questions will leave audiences weak from laughter as the Old Town Players community theater presents six performances of “Red, White & Tuna,” Friday through Sunday and April  20-22.

“Red, White & Tuna” is the third in the series of comedic plays by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, which also includes “Greater Tuna” and “A Tuna Christmas.”

OTP has produced both of these shows, and former cast members were invited back to reprise their former roles.

The cast features Tom Burns as Elmer Watkins and Rev. Spikes; Sue Clark (Bicknell) as Pearl Burras; Jan Day as Helen Bedd; Terry L. Garner (Bruceville) as Petey Fisk and Garland Poteet; Zane Grogan as Charlene and Stanley Bumiller; Jessica Larimer (Terre Haute) as Star Birdfeather; Shar Mahoney as Inita Goodwin; Vickie Puffer as Bertha Bumiller; Dan Reitmeyer as Thurston Wheelis and Vera Carp; Kris Riggins as Ronnie; Rick Riggins as Arles Struvie and R.R. Snavely; Dennis Steckley (Palestine, Ill.) as Joe Bob Lipsey and Leonard Childers; Stephanie Turnage as Didi Snavely; and Lee Williams as Amber Windsong.

The artistic director for “Red, White & Tuna” is veteran performer and director Vickie Puffer who says that the show is a must-see. “The Tuna plays have been incredibly popular with OTP audiences. In fact, that OTP bowed to audience demand and has done ‘A Tuna Christmas’ twice, once in 1997 and again in 2001.”

Performances begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at OTP Theatre and Arts Center, 432 Broadway St.

Tickets can be purchased at the door at $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students. Group rates are available with advance registration. Call (812) 882-1639 or visit www.oldtownplayers.org.
