Thomas Edison to visit Children’s Museum

TERRE HAUTE — At 2:30 p.m. Sunday Thomas Edison, inventor, lecturer and prankster, will pay a special visit to the Terre Haute Children’s Museum. The appearance is part of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Family Discovery Series. Thomas Alva Edison, as portrayed by Broadway performer Patrick Garner, will engage Museum guests in an exciting, hands-on, motivational program. Along the way, Edison will share several secrets to his success, including the value of hard work, the value of mistakes, the value of turning liabilities into assets, and the values of enjoying one’s work. Some audience members will even have the chance to help recreate some of Edison’s most famous experiments. Edison was arguably one of the most influential people in all of history. He is variously credited with leading the transition from the Age of Steam to the Age of Electricity, “inventing” the Twentieth Century and developing the modern research laboratory, a cornerstone of corporate structure. Seventy years after his death, he still holds the record for the greatest number of U.S. Patents ever awarded to an individual — 1,093. It’s hard to imagine a world without his gifts of electric light, recorded music and motion pictures. In Edison, can be found a true rags-to-riches story of a poor, self-taught boy who grew up to be the greatest inventor of his or any other age. The Thomas Edison presentation is free for members of the Terre Haute Children’s Museum and free with paid museum admission for non-members. Admission to the Terre Haute Children’s Museum is $7 for adults and children 2 and older. Admission for children up to 24 months is free. For more information about the presentation, and other activities coming up at the Museum, call (812) 235-5548, email info@ terrehautechildrensmuseum.com, or visit www.thchildrensmuseum.com. This year’s Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Family Discovery Series will use science, technology, music and entertainment to ignite the imaginations of audience members of all ages. Other shows in this year’s Series are “ImagineOcean,” “Arc Attack,” “Black Violin with the Crossroads of America Youth Orchestra,” and “The Intergalactic Nemesis.” Tickets and information for Rose-Hulman’s Performing Arts Series are available by calling the Hatfield Hall box office at (812) 877-8544 or visiting the series’ website at www.hatfieldhall.com.
