Sycamore Manor to host open house
Sycamore Manor Senior Living is hosting its Holiday Marketplace & Open House from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at 222 S. 25th St.
During a Christmas walk of apartment homes, shop for great gift items from vendors such as Pampered Chef, Avon, Steinmart, Premier Designs Jewelry, Mary Kay, Fun Soaps and Family Fudge Company.

Holiday open house slated for Sunday
White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence, will have a holiday open house Sunday at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Hours for the open house are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet alpaca crias at the barn. A variety of handmade holiday gifts will be available for purchase.
Demonstrations will be given in felting, spinning, weaving and wreath making. Fresh spinach, lettuce, chard, kale, onions and potatoes will be available at the greenhouse for purchase.
A water and needle felting demonstration is at 10 a.m., spinning and weaving is at 11 a.m., wreath making is at 1 p.m. and tour of the hoop house garden area is at 2 p.m. Visitors will be able to meet the baby alpacas at noon.

Concert Band plans last concert of season
The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present “William Tell and Friends” at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Scottish Rite Cathedral at Eighth and Ohio Streets in Terre Haute.
The classic overture for the performance is “William Tell,” played in its entirety and featuring Shelley Criss on flute and Julie Dugger on oboe.
Trumpeters David Brinson, Dr. Martin Dixon and Steve Steppe will share the stage on Leroy Anderson’s popular “Bugler’s Holiday.”
The entire trumpet section is highlighted in Herb Alpert’s “Tijuana Brass in Concert” and a march by Fred Jewell: “Trumpets of Victory.”
Honoring America’s veterans, the Brazil Concert Band will perform the stately “Victory at Sea” from the famous television series about World War II.
The concert band will include “His Honor” by Henry Fillmore, a brand new arrangement of “Freischutz Quickstep” by Civil War bandmaster Claudio Grafulla and, of course, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by none other than John Philip Sousa.
The Brazil Concert Band, recipient of the Sudler Silver Scroll Band Award, has performed throughout the nation, professionally recorded two CDs of music by composer Fred Jewell and has entertained the citizens of the Wabash Valley for more than 150 years.

Watch ‘Wonderful Life’ at The Indiana
A food donation and/or a new (or gently used) toy will allow you to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore and Thomas Mitchell Nov. 29 at the Indiana Theatre.
DeBaun Funeral Home, Callahan-DeBaun Funeral and the Indiana Theatre are teaming up to bring this holiday classic film to the big screen at 2 p.m. that day.
Food and toys will be taken to a local charity organization.

Benefit for Nick Green family coming up
Band members of S.W.O. (Stone Wheel Orchestra) will perform a benefit show for the Nick Green family Saturday at Sam’s Steak House in Marshall. Doors open at 7 p.m. (CST). Rock ’n’ roll band S.W.O. will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the following Marshall locations: First Financial Bank, Sam’s Steakhouse and the Lions Den. Tickets also are available from event organizers and will be available at the door the day of the event.
This is an all-ages event but adult beverage will be available for purchase by those age 21 and older. All proceeds from the event go to assist the Green family.
Green is a senior at Marshall High School and plays the quads in the Marshall High School marching band. He was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in 1993. He and his sister both live with the syndrome. Since his diagnoses, Nick has been a patient at both the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Chicago and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, has undergone four surgeries, and had his scoliosis corrected. On Dec. 4, Nick will undergo open heart surgery.

Shop for a Cure on Saturday at church
More than 30 vendors will sell crafts, jewelry and other items during the Shop for a Cure from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cross Tabernacle Church at 2929 N. Seventh St.
A portion of each sale will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Lunch will be available for $6 (1/2 chicken salad sandwich on Spring Mill Co. Bread, homemade loaded potato soup, a slice of pie from the Grand Traverse Pie Co., and a drink) and 100 percent of the proceeds from lunch sales with go to the American Cancer Society.

‘Arts & Soul’ celebration Saturday
“Celebration of The Arts & Soul, First Annual Fall Show” is 6 to 9 p.m. today, 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Old Brazil Masonic Temple at 201 N. Walnut St. in Brazil. An opening reception is today.
Artists, musicians, energy workers, massage therapists, psychic readers and vendors are displaying a variety of handcrafted gifts and inspired services for the show, which will benefit the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry. Last year, when this mini-festival took place, more than 250 families were in need of their help. This year, the pantry is assisting more than 300 families.
While admission to the event is free, attendees are asked to bring items for donation. The Clay County Emergency Food Pantry is in need of food, clothes, blankets, toiletries, housewares and small appliances. The goal is to gather more than 100 items this year.
In addition to the gifts and services available, music and mini-lectures have been incorporated into the event. Also, more of the Old Brazil Masonic Temple has been opened and prepared for this event, which will span more than 4,000 square feet of display space on two floors.

Band-O-Rama concert Sunday in Tilson
The 19th annual Indiana State University Band-O-Rama concert is 4 p.m. Sunday in Tilson Auditorium.
Featured on the program will be the Concert Band, under the direction of Dennis Ballard, and the Marching Sycamores, directed by Doug Keiser. Flags and Sparkettes are under the direction of Tamara Schaffer.
The Concert Band will take the stage first to perform several selections including “Westridge Overture,” “Fantasy on an Irish Air,” “As Winds Dance,” “Reverberations” and “Bonds of Unity.”
Senior music students Sutton Doty of Rosedale, April Mehringer of Huntingburg, Jay Lowry of Highland and Justin Etmeier of Sandborn will serve as student conductors.
The Marching Sycamores will perform traditional selections such as “March On,” “Wabash Cannonball,” “Alma Mater,” and “Cheer for the Blue and White” in addition to selections such as “Don’t Stop Believin’,’” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” “I Just Want to Celebrate” and selections from the “Mask of Zorro.”
Admission is free. The ISU chapter of the Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity will provide a reception following the concert.

‘Wonderful Life’ dinner theater Dec. 8
Celebrate this holiday season with the live performance of a classic.
Dinner and theater combine at Indiana State University for “It’s A Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre” at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8.
The tickets, $50 per person, include a dinner in the Cunningham Memorial Library’s Special Events Area and the performance in Tilson Auditorium. The adapted performance of “It’s A Wonderful Life” is performed in the style of a live studio radio broadcast in 1946. The dinner theater is being co-presented by Cunningham Library and the Performing Arts Series.

Riley Lions Club plans Fish Fry
The Riley Township Lions Club will host a Country Rhodes Fish Fry at Terre Haute South High School from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The menu consists of catfish fillets, fried walleye, popcorn shrimp and chicken strips, baked beans, hushpuppies, potato salad, cole slaw, applesauce and drinks.
Prices are $8 for adults and $6 for those 12 and under. Desserts will be available for purchase. Patrons are asked to use the southwest parking lot entrance.

Gaslight Art Colony opening night set
The Gaslight Art Colony at 516 Archer Ave. in Marshall, is planning its second opening night from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
This month, the Art Colony will feature photography from local artist Thomas Dagley. His work will be on display from Saturday through Dec. 16.
The gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 1 to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Photographer displays work at library
Rick Baldomero of Baldomero Photography in Marshall is displaying a variety of his photography in the display cases at the Marshall Public Library at 612 Archer Ave. through the end of November.
Baldomero’s work shows a unique take on nature and other colorful objects in our surroundings. His photos are paired with a fascinating collection of cameras from years past.
Baldomero has displayed his work at the Halcyon Gallery and the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute. He is a board member of the Gaslight Art Colony in Marshall.

Freemasons open lodges for tours
Indiana Freemasons across the state are opening their doors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The lodges are hosting statewide open houses for both membership inquiries and tours of their lodges.
The local lodge is at the Masonic Temple at 224 N. Eighth St. There will be representation from all the lodges in the area as well as representatives from appendant bodies such as the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine, DeMolay and Rainbow Girls. This opportunity is the perfect time to visit, ask questions and learn about the organization’s history.

Gallery features seniors’ works
The St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Art Gallery’s latest exhibition features the work of seniors Chanel Reeder and Andrea Lynch.
The exhibition, titled “Digital Media in Focus,” will be on display through Dec. 8.
Reeder and Lynch both will graduate from the Woods in May. Reeder of Terre Haute is a double major in advertising and digital media communications with a minor in journalism. Lynch, originally from Greenfield, but who now lives in Chula Vista, Calif., is majoring in digital media with minors in film studies and creative writing.
The St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Art Gallery is in Hulman Hall, Room 132. Admission is free. Regular gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
