TERRE HAUTE — A classic novel will be brought to life on the Tilson Auditorium stage at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 when “To Kill a Mockingbird” comes to Indiana State.
Harper Lee’s Pulitzer-Prize winning novel was first brought to the screen in an Academy Award- winning adaptation by Horton Foote in 1962 and was later adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel. Even though it’s more than 35 years old, this stage adaptation — performed by members of the Montana Repertory Theatre — continues to compel and delight viewers worldwide with its warmth, wit and wisdom.
The story of “To Kill a Mockingbird” is simple and speaks of human nature and values. The audience is transported to a sleepy Southern town in the 1930s, and through the actions of attorney Atticus Finch, discovers that the issues of that time — prejudice, racism, and human values — are universal issues.
Witness this classic tale unfold and its colorful characters develop as 15 actors and a crew of seven brings you a compelling performance of this literary classic.
Established as the theatre in residence at the School of Fine Arts at The University of Montana, the Montana Repertory Theatre has been providing top-quality theatre to audiences across the country since 1968. The group, one of the oldest and most respected touring companies in the country, has been touring nationally since 1996, when they first presented “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Patrons are invited to participate in pre-event festivities, which will begin at 6:30 with light refreshments.
At 6:45 p.m., actors from the Montana Repertory Theatre will talk about acting and preparing for their roles in “Mockingbird.”
Tickets will be available at the door. Adult tickets are $11 and $19. Tickets are $10 for youth ages 2-18.
ISU students are admitted free with a valid student ID and are invited to participate in a punch card program. ISU Faculty/Staff tickets are $15, depending on location.
Tickets are available in advance at the Hulman Center Ticket Office or by calling 1-877-ISU-TIXS.
