TH Symphony Orchestra to present 'Music of the Night'

TERRE HAUTE — Music Director David Bowden and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will present “Music of the Night,” an evening of music suitable for the Halloween season, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Indiana State University’s Tilson Auditorium.

The concert will feature Berlioz’s “Fantastic Symphony” — one of the most exciting orchestral pieces ever written. Other selections will be Mussorgsky — “Night on Bald Mountain,” Saint-Saens — “Danse Macabre,” and highlights from “Phantom of the Opera” by Webber. The performance will conclude with the Berlioz Symphonie fantastique.

A free Family Time concert offers a special opportunity for children to attend a performance at 12:30 p.m., also at Tilson. This abbreviated version of the performance is a chance for children to become familiar with classical music and the excitement that a live performance can provide. A children’s costume contest will follow with trophies for the most outstanding costumes.

Come early for “Concert Conversations with David Bowden” at 6:45 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom. This is your chance to hear the background of the music that will be played and the composers who wrote it. It’s also a time when you can meet Bowden personally and ask him your questions about how a symphony orchestra works and performs.

Everyone is invited to come in costume for the evening performance. Both the free Family Time concert and the evening performance are made possible by a grant from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.

Tickets for the regular 7:30 evening performance are available in advance at the Hulman Center Ticket Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets also will be available at the door.

It’s also not too late to purchase tickets for the full season. Season tickets also offer a chance to be invited to special activities and social events throughout the season.
