Wabash Valley Weekends: Oct. 23, 2009

Scary fun

Once again Billie Creek Village and Rockville Rotary will team-up to bring Valley residents two nights of Halloween “fright.”

• The annual Fright Nights will be staged Saturday and Sunday at Billie Creek Village.

• Hallow-scream Weekend is today and Saturday at Turkey Run State Park. Among planned activities are pumpkin carving, Jack O’ Jump races, pet and people costume contests, a Haunted Adventure, trick-or-treating, and a Monster Egg Hunt.

• The Wabash Valley Fair Association will be hosting the first-annual “Fall Festival at the Fairgrounds” this weekend and next. This new event will feature the Wabash Valley’s largest haunted house attraction with over 20,000 square feet called “Scare at the Fair.”

•The Fall Festival will also include a Harvest Pavilion that will be filled with a straw maze, petting zoo, pumpkins, decorating station, picnic area and educational agricultural displays.

• The event is being presented by Regional Hospital with proceeds from Scare at the Fair benefiting the United Way of the Wabash Valley.

Open House

• Railroad enthusiasts will remember the Haley Tower rescue with an open house and 10-year anniversary celebration Saturday. Haley Tower was moved Oct. 22, 1999.

• The celebration is in the Wabash Valley Railroaders Museum at 1316 Plum St.

• Gates open at 11 a.m. The Clee J. Sprague Memorial Platform dedication is planned for 12:30 p.m.

• Contact the museum office at (812) 238-9958 or visit www.haleytower.org for more information.

At the Opry

• “Many Colors of Dolly,” a Dolly Parton tribute starring Sherrill Douglas, is Saturday at the Boot City Opry.

• Not only does she look like Dolly, she sings Dolly right: flirtatious, sexy and fun-loving. Sherrill captures the essence of Dolly and covers favorites such as, “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” among others.

• Show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15.

• The Boot City Opera is on U.S. 41, about five miles south of Terre Haute.
