Historical Society brings happy days back with fundraiser

TERRE HAUTE — Happy days are here again. The Vigo County Historical Society has been using the 1930s as the theme for this year’s events. In keeping with this theme, the final event of the year will be a party celebrating the end of prohibition which occurred in December of 1933. It’s time to raise a toast, join a sing along around the piano with Kathy Anderson, or take to the dance floor to the music of Dave Frisse and the Pilgrim Band.

All these activities will take place at the Historical Society’s fundraising party from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Ohio Building. Called “Happy Days Are Here Again,” the party has something for every taste. The evening will begin with cocktails at the street level, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, a cash bar and music of the era presented by pianist and vocalist, Kathy Anderson. Everyone is welcome to gather around the piano and join in the singing.

Upstairs, entertaining in the ballroom, the music of Dave Frisse and the Pilgrim Band will lure you to the dance floor or at least have you tapping your toes. The band features Dave Frisse, vocals and guitar; Doris Frisse, vocals; Bill Foraker, drums and percussion; Jim Rasley, keyboard; and Eric Rasley, bass.

Then comes the culmination of the event — a reverse raffle for a 1929 four door Model A Ford. Suspense is part of the fun of a reverse raffle as each ticket is given a number and the last number drawn is the winner of this vintage car. The winner of the car then has the option of keeping it or donating it back to the Historical Society. If the decision is made to donate the car to the Society, it will be auctioned that evening and the proceeds divided between the individual and the Society.

Tickets are $100, and include admission for two and a raffle ticket for the vintage car. Reservations may be made by calling (812) 235-9717. All proceeds from the Vigo County Historical Society’s party will benefit the Historical Museum.
