Arts Illiana to host fall exhibition opening

TERRE HAUTE — Arts Illiana invites the public to the Friday opening of its fall collection.

The exhibit represents the talents of Wabash Valley artists and includes painting, photography, mixed media and more. Also on display will be a variety of jewelry, ceramics, one-of-a-kind greeting cards and other gift items. All artwork in the gallery is for sale.

Special guests for the evening will be Jon Ford, chair of the Indiana Arts Commission; Bobbie Garver, Indiana Arts Commission; and state Reps. Bob Heaton and Clyde Kersey. In addition, guitarist Brent McPike will be performing on behalf of the ISU Community School of the Arts. Enjoy drinks and snacks and celebrate the arts. The reception is free and will run from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event will recognize the 2012-2013 Regional Initiative Grant recipients. The list of organizations receiving operational funding are the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Swope Art Museum, Art Spaces Inc., Community Theatre of Clay County, Community Theatre of Terre Haute, Putnam County Playhouse and Terre Haute Community Band. Arts Project grant recipients include Crossroads Repertory Theatre, Indiana State University Art Gallery, Indiana State University School of Music and St. Mary-of-the-Woods Theatre Department.

Arts Illiana will also recognize the Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant Recipients: Catherine Laska, Mary Jo Maraldo, Peter Williams and Sala Wong.

Arts Illiana is the Arts Council of the Wabash Valley serving Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties in Indiana and neighboring Illinois counties. The Regional Initiative and Individual Artist grant funds are provided by the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
