Meals, carnival, tractor pull, live music this weekend in Cory

CORY, IND. — The Cory Apple Festival celebrates its 43rd year Friday through Sunday. Kick off the weekend early at the Fireman’s Breakfast with the Hi-99 Waking Crew from 6 to 10 a.m. Friday. A hog roast is planned from 4 to 8 p.m. Both events are at the firehouse. A karaoke contest will be at the basketball court and the Garden Tractor Pull will be on the pull/derby strip from 7 to 10 p.m.

Check out the carnival and numerous craft, flea market and antique booths around town all three days.

Also, open all three days is The Bad Apple Saloon Beer Garden and Foods with live entertainment. Bands for Friday and Saturday include Mullet Over, Crooked Creek and Brian Mounts and the Lonely Riders. The pavilion and tent are in town and open at 10 a.m.

The Fireman’s Breakfast kicks off Saturday events at 6 a.m. at the firehouse. Hoosier Hills’ annual Golf Scramble starts at 8 a.m. Kids games are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the pavilion. A Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull will begin at 11 a.m. with registration starting 15 minutes prior on Depot Street. Age groups will be 3-4, 5-7 and 8-10.

The Jonah fish fry will be from noon to 8 p.m. Carryout meals and sandwiches will be available.

Rev up the afternoon with the Cruise-In Car and Motorcycle Show from noon to 4 p.m. A DJ will be presenting cash prizes every half hour. Judging will end at 2 p.m. and awards will be presented at 4 p.m. Registration is $10 the day of the show. Call 812-446-2612 for more information.

Fatboy Dan’s Redneck Lawnmower Derby is back from 1 to 4 p.m. on the pull/derby strip. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Anyone interested in participating should be at least 18 years old and bring their own helmet and lawnmower with a $25 registration fee. A Women’s Powder Puff Derby will also be offered; there is no entry fee. For more information, rules and video of previous events, check out www.fatboydanfishing.com. There is no admission fee. There will be entertainment for the kids between heats, a 50/50 drawing and a tractor raffle for instant participation in the feature round.

Also on Saturday, the Cornhole Tournament will begin registration at noon with the competition beginning at 1 p.m. on Oliver Street. Entertainers throughout the day include The Coonhunters, The Lemon Brothers Band and Stacy Wagle and the Country Nomads.

Sunday’s annual Community Worship Service will begin with special musical guest The Yellow Kites at 9:10 a.m. followed by a regular service at 9:30 a.m.

Serving at the Homemade Chicken and Noodle Dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the firehouse.

The Yellow Kites will play from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The parade will be the last scheduled event, beginning at 3 p.m. Anyone not registered, but wanting to be a part of the parade should be at the lineup between 2 and 3 p.m. just south of Cory Nazarene Church.

Helicopter rides will be available Saturday and Sunday.

Carry home a bag of apples and a gallon of cider to complete any day.
