Songwriters, poets, musicians invited to share works at Roundtable

TERRE HAUTE — Songwriters Roundtable, a new weekly event for budding songwriters, poets and musicians, will offer the opportunity to come together for collaboration.

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Java Haute.

Musicians are asked to bring acoustic instruments (guitars, strings, brass and woodwinds). Each songwriter will be given the opportunity to perform new materials and ask others around the table to jump in or provide suggestions. Each song will be discussed in a friendly environment.

Poets and songwriters are also invited to participate. Lyrics and poems will be read to the group, with the idea that any musician participating can connect with the lyricist for future collaboration.

“We have a tremendous amount of talent in the area, both musical and in terms of creative writing,” said Robert Flott, B3 Entertainment president and co-host of the event. “I have first-hand experience with the creative writing talent at Indiana State [University], as a graduate of the program. I also work with many extremely talented musicians. I believe a good mix of the two will benefit everyone.”

Ken Tucker, local singer-songwriter with Benevolent Blues Records, will co-host the event with Flott. Tucker has four CDs to his credit. His last CD, Juke Joint Serenade, received strong reviews by Blues Revue magazine, and was featured on Dan Aykroyd’s “House of Blues Radio Hour.”

Musicians are asked to perform only original music as part of the Roundtable.

“This protects venue owner from conflict with various industry groups, such as ASCAP and BMI,” Flott said. There is no cost to participate.

For more information, contact Flott at (812) 223-0979, or Tucker at (812) 564-1520.
