TERRE HAUTE — The 2010 Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brothers Big Sister’s largest and most important annual fundraising event. BBBS hopes to surpass last year’s campaign, which culminates with a series of community bowling events on March 13, 20, 22 and 29 at Terre Haute Bowling Center, 600 Springhill Drive.
Bowlers can choose to bowl during College Night, March 22, from 9 to 11 p.m. or any of the six sessions offered on March 13 or 29 at noon to 2 p.m.; 2 to 4 p.m. or special glow bowling sessions from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Board members and team captains representing area business and organizations are working to challenge the community to become involved in supporting youth mentoring by forming a team and raising pledges for the bowlathon.
Teams consist of four to five people — families, friends, co-workers, who solicit pledges to support BBBS and receive two free games of bowling and the chance to win great prizes.
A kickoff lunch hosted by Rick’s Smokehouse on Jan. 27 provided team packets and recruiting materials to support team captains in increasing the number of teams registering for the 2010 event.
The individual recruiting the most teams will win a special prize package with additional awards made to the bowler who raises the most money; the team raising the most money and individual prizes awarded during all sessions of bowling. A new feature this year is the addition of “traveling bowling trophies,” which will be awarded in several categories for the organizations or teams which raise the most money in their respective category.
Numerous prizes have been donated by area merchants to be awarded to the bowlers during their two free games of bowling. Items include gift certificates, car wash coupons, hair care products, collector coins, gift baskets and two free round-trip airline tickets good anywhere in the continental United States, compliments of IT Travel.
All bowlers who raise a minimum of $35 will receive a special commemorative T-shirt and those who raise $75 or more will receive the T-Shirt and a sweatshirt, plus be eligible for special prize drawings.
Several opportunities exist for corporate sponsorships from Title Sponsors to Strike, Spare or Lane Rake levels.
Sponsors will have their name and logo displayed on various Bowl For Kids Sake materials, including print and billboard ads as well as display of their name and logo at Terre Haute Bowling Center during the month of March.
