Concert, shows make Rose busy place

TERRE HAUTE — A campus community concert, three performing arts shows and a special visiting event will make Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Hatfield Hall Theater a busy place this month.

The activities begin on Wednesday when the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity sponsors a comedy night program, featuring Andi Smith, a St. Louis-based stand-up female comedian who made it to the semifinal round in the sixth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing show in 2007. Tickets for the show are $5 and can be purchased from fraternity members or at the door on the night of the show. All proceeds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vigo County. For more information, persons can contact Chad Welty, Pi Kappa Alpha’s campus involvement chair, at Chadwick.Welty@rose-

hulman.edu.

The annual Rose-Hulman Community Concert on March 13 showcases the musical talents of Rose-Hulman students, faculty and staff members. The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. No advanced tickets are required and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Then, on March 19-20, actors from the London Stage will bring William Shakespeare’s words to life in a unique production of “Romeo & Juliet,” starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. The touring ensemble of five professional British actors stage a production as simply as possible — a few chairs, minimal lighting and some carefully selected props. The actors, each playing a variety of roles, rely on the inventiveness of their acting, the power of the text and the imagination of the audience to tell the story. Tickets are available for both nights at $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Rose-Hulman’s student chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers is sponsoring a show by Indiana University’s Soul Revue on March 26, starting at 7:30 p.m. The group has gained a reputation as one of the finest collegiate popular music ensembles in America. Past performances have featured songs by Earth Wind & Fire, Taste of Honey, Jill Scott and Beyonce. This special show will support the Mercy Foundation, which provides health care and medication to patients in Nigeria. General admission tickets, at $10, can be purchased in advance.

Finally, on March 28, Celtic Crossroads will fill the theater with the best that Irish music and dance has to offer. This fresh new show from Ireland presents Irish music like never before, set to do to Irish music what Riverdance has done to Irish dance. A limited number of tickets are still available for the show. Tickets are $22 for adults, and $17 for students and youths. Persons can reserve tickets for all Hatfield Hall events by calling the ticket office at (812) 877-8544.
