Spring dinner/dance April 28 at Hungarian Hall

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute’s First Hungarian Working Men’s Society will host its annual Spring Dance fundraiser on April 28 at the Hungarian Hall, 22nd and Linden St. (one block south of Maple). Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner.

A Hungarian dinner of stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes and green beans, as well as other dinner selections, will be available for purchase. Hungarian pastries will also be featured.

Dinners are $6, entree only is $3, and a cash bar is also available.

The featured entertainment will be Ambush, performing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

There will also be a silent auction taking place during the dance. Food will also be available for carryout (no admission ticket is required for carryout orders).

Admission tickets for the evening of entertainment are available at the door. Adults are $6, children 5 to 12 are $3, and under 5 are free.

The society was founded in 1909, with the purpose of assisting members and new immigrants, cultivating the spirit of “brotherhood” and preserving and strengthening the Hungarian culture and heritage.

A nonprofit organization, the club accepts new members, both Hungarian and non-Hungarian. Meetings are conducted monthly.

Annual activities include two dances, participation in various festivals, rummage sales and other fundraisers. There is also interest in collecting and recording the history of the organization.

Those who have photographs and stories to share should contact the lodge at 2049 N. 22nd St., Terre Haute, IN 47804, or call (812) 234-5326 and leave a message.
