The Cory Volunteer Fire Department and the Cory community will be presenting the 43rd Annual Cory Apple Festival Sept. 28-30. Featured meals at the Firehouse include a hog roast, Jonah Fish Fry and chicken noodle dinner. Events include a karaoke singing contest, golf scramble at Hoosier Hills, cornhole tournament, kiddie pedal tractor pull, kids’ games, a car and motorcycle show, Fatboy Dan’s Redneck Lawnmower Derby, a garden tractor pull, parade and entertainment.
The Bad Apple Saloon will feature a beer garden and live music all weekend. There will be craft, flea market, antiques, yard sale and food booths around town. Booth space is still available for anyone interested in having a craft, flea market or antique stand. To reserve a spot, contact Lana Hendrix at 812-864-2229.
The Garden Tractor Pull will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28.
Hoosier Hills Golf Course will sponsor the golf scramble starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 29. Awards will be presented. Contact Hoosier Hills to register early at 812-864-2304.
The cornhole tournament will begin at 1 p.m. Sept. 29. Registration will begin at noon.
The Car and Motorcycle Show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 with judging at 2 p.m. and awards presented at 4 p.m. There will be cash drawings every half hour and DJ music all afternoon. Pre-registration is $8 and due by Saturday. All pre-registers will receive a T-shirt, dash plaque and be entered into a drawing for a free entry for the 2013 show. Back again this year will be Fat Boy Dan’s Redneck Lawnmower Derby. It will be staged on the main festival grounds from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Anyone interested in participating in the derby should be 18 years of age and bring their own helmet and lawnmower with a $25 registration fee. There will be cash prizes ($300 first place) and trophies. A Women’s Powder Puff Derby will also be offered; there is no entry fee and trophies will be presented to the first three places. A little extra help is always useful when it comes to the community dinners. Anyone with some extra time to lend a hand with serving, preparing and clean-up for the hog roast, Jonah Fish Fry and chicken noodle dinner should stop in at the firehouse. Organizers are also in search of bakers who would be willing to donate pies to be sold along with the meals during the weekend.
