River City features award-winning artist at Vigo Library in June

TERRE HAUTE — River City Art Association award-winning artist Ruthann Brady will exhibit at the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets in June.

Brady will display six award-winning paintings, including two Best of Show, three first-place and one third-place.

Brady was born and raised in Turman Township, Sullivan County. She graduated from Graysville High School in 1961. Brady retired from Verizon in 1997 to accompany her husband, Kenneth, to Europe when his work presented the opportunity. Living in Brussels, Belgium, and traveling on the continent and in England, she and her husband visited major museums and galleries and there were always sidewalk exhibitions.

Vacationing in Wales, they stayed at a farm bed and breakfast. Their host was a retired art teacher. “She said anyone can learn to paint,” Brady said. She has been painting ever since.

“My art is always in transition. It evolves as I do through experience and exploration. I often begin a painting without any preconceived plan. I flow with the rhythm of the process, pouring, manipulating and allowing the visual magic to take me on a journey. This is my favorite way to paint, as I feel my spirit is imparted to the painting and hopefully will resonate with the viewer, allowing a spiritual journey of their own.”

Brady’s recent awards include best of show, Crawford County Arts 22nd annual exhibition, 2010; first place, River City Art Association spring exhibition, 2010; first place, RCAA Spring Exhibition, 2009; first place, Crawford County, 2009; second place, Raven Summer Exhibition; best of show, 2005, and third place, 2008, WVAG. Brady’s work has been accepted for the Swope Art Museum’s 66th annual Wabash Valley Juried Exhibition, which begins July 10 with an opening reception and awards ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m.

Brady is represented by Ed and Kathy Cook in association with Song Bird Inspirations, 1 Meadows, Suite 7A, the newest gallery in town; Raven Gallery, 817 Ohio; Gallery on the Main, Sullivan; and Mansfield Artisan Gallery, Mansfield. View more paintings at www.ruthannbrady.com.
