Mystery author visiting Rockville library to discuss novel set in Indiana

ROCKVILLE — Mystery author Tony Perona will visit the Rockville Library on June 8 to talk about the mystery genre and his latest Indiana-set novel, “Saintly Remains.” The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. This is sponsored by Rockville Public Library and Senior Education Ministries.

Perona plans to discuss the various mystery subgenres such as cozies and thrillers and interact with the audience about their favorite mystery novels and novelists. “I’m fortunate to have been elected president of the Midwest Chapter of the Mystery Writers of America,” he said. “As such, I sit on the national board and have had the opportunity to meet literary luminaries like Mary Higgins Clark, Lee Child, Harlan Coben and Laura Lippman. I hope to be able to share some stories of the people I’ve met as I find out from the audience who their favorite mystery authors are.” He will also read from and discuss his current novel.

Perona writes a mystery series about stay-at-home dad/freelance investigative reporter Nick Bertetto, who has a knack for solving mysteries that have a supernatural element.

Published by Five Star/Cengage, the books have been reviewed nationally by Publishers Weekly, Mystery Scene magazine, Booklist, the Indianapolis Star and others. The latest, “Saintly Remains,” has been favorably reviewed by Kirkus Reviews, Booklist and Library Journal, which called it a “compelling read.”

Each book is set in a different Indiana city. The first, “Second Advent,” was set in the Clinton area. The second, “Angels Whisper,” was set in the Franklin/Indianapolis area, and the latest is set in Jasper. “I was born in Indiana and live here,” he said. “I have a great appreciation for Hoosiers and the different areas of the state, and I try to celebrate them in my novels.”

Perona can be reached through his website, www.tonyperona.com.
