Gaslight Art Colony exhibits art work of Allen, Payne

Marshall, Ill. — Gaslight Art Colony is currently filled with the artwork of both Bill Allen and Scott Payne. The show will be open during regular gallery hours through June 16.

Allen grew up in north Terre Haute. After graduating from high school, he attended Indiana State University, taking several art classes. Although he enjoys photography and drawing, his true creative passion is painting. His inspiration has derived from the organic aspects of architecture and the surreal elements of nature. He is also influenced by the vibrant character of his abstract imagination.

Payne is a self-taught artist who credits his grade-school and high school art teachers Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Grubb as major influences.

But he was also inspired by a set of Old World encyclopedias. “I have had to draw what was in me; it had to come out. In some of these works I tried to capture some of my inner child. I have really been inspired by the kids’ art, by their pure expression before all the rules and expectations seep in,” Payne said.

Gaslight Art Colony is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to broadening an appreciation of the arts by providing opportunities that promote awareness, participation and understanding through fine arts exhibitions, classes and workshops.

The gallery is at 516 Archer Ave. in Marshall. Visit the Colony on Facebook or at www.gaslightartcolony.com. Contact it by email at gaslightartcolony@gmail.com or by calling (217) 808-2115.
