Masons plan Old-Fashioned BBQ fundraiser in Oblong on June 9

Oblong, Ill. — On June 9 in Illinois, following a five-year tradition, area Masons from Newton, Flat Rock, Oblong, Palestine and other local lodges will host an outdoor BBQ for the community as a benefit for the Oblong Children’s Christian Home.

Serving will begin at 11 a.m. from the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Oblong. Plated meals ($5-small plate; $7-full plate) will be available until 6 p.m. Drive-through services also will be offered.

This year’s menu includes smoked pork BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw and drink.

In addition, participants should come prepared to participate in the Usborne Books and More Book Fair staged in collaboration with the BBQ fundraiser. The book fair, a cash-and-carry event, will also benefit the Oblong Children’s Christian Home.

Individuals can order selections that have been chosen by the residents of the home or order a favorite title. All sales will benefit the home.

People unable to attend, can order books online from www.bookslady.com. Donations to the home, in lieu of a book or meal purchase, will be accepted at www.oblongchristianhome.org. For more information, call (618) 592-3633.

“Our collaboration with the Masons organization in recent years has been a blessing. We are thankful to the gracious individuals in our local community who have chosen to give time and effort to an event meant entirely as a gift to the Children’s Home,” said Amy Kemp, director for promotions and partnership development.

“We welcome this partnership and are genuinely grateful for the chance to work together to assist the young children in our care.”

The Oblong Children’s Christian Home is a nonprofit home that houses abused, troubled and neglected children.
