Sullivan Corn Festival next weekend

SULLIVAN — The 54th Annual Sullivan Rotary Corn Festival will take place Sept. 15-18 in downtown Sullivan. Some highlights of the festival this year include free live music, Luehrs’ Ideal Rides nightly, Sullivan Art Exhibit, “Building Communities, Bridging Continents” parade with the South Shore Drill Team performing and much more.

The Corn Festival Concert Series includes music from well-known bands including Chicago Farmer, Max Allen Band, BritBeat, Rachel Timberlake and Tons of Fun.

The music will be free each night on the west side of the square. Entertainment co-chair Paul McGlasson stated, “We are very fortunate to have such an amazing group of musicians coming to Sullivan County this year. One festival highlight is the addition of BritBeat, with their thrilling trip taking us back to 1964, when the Beatles were at the height of their career.”

The music schedule is as follows:

• Chicago Farmer — 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday

• Max Allen Band — 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday

• BritBeat — 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 17

• Rachel Timberlake — 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 18

• Tons of Fun — 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 18

The Corn Festival Parade will have a new route this year on Section Street, instead of the traditional Court Street route.

The new route was a welcomed change, eliminating troublesome turns in the parade route, more room for spectators and a newly paved surface for all involved. The parade will also assemble at Sullivan High School instead of along Court Street, like in the past, allowing a safer environment for all paradegoers.

“The parade is going to be better than ever with the new parade route,” said Sullivan Rotary Club President Suzanne Cloyd. “We feel it will be a safer, more enjoyable parade for organizers and spectators alike.”

The Corn Festival will once again be the canvas for the Sullivan Art Exhibit. The Sullivan Art Guild and Sullivan Rotary Club will support the exhibit featuring artwork from local and regional artists. The exhibit will take place during the Corn Festival in the downtown gym a block south of the square.

The amusements for the Corn Festival will be provided by Luehrs’ Ideal Rides, with its four Circle of Excellence awards, will open its 54th season as America’s premier portable family amusement park. Luehrs’ Ideal Rides has been awarded the Outdoor Amusement Business Association’s “Circle Of Excellence” award for 5 years. The amusements will be open nightly for family fun.

Sept. 18 will bring many events for the entire family:
