Sister of Providence artist opens solo exhibit in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE — Sister Jody O’Neil, artist in residence for the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, opened a solo exhibit Jan. 19 in Corporate Square at 2901 Ohio Blvd. The exhibit will continue until July 12.

O’Neil, who works in several different media, will show 11 matted and framed photos and six framed watercolors, all of which are available for purchase. The free exhibit was arranged through Arts Illiana Inc.

The photos were taken in historic Rome and at The Vatican during the time of the canonization of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin in October 2006. The watercolors are on yupo — a smooth, 100-percent recyclable, tree-free, durable, synthetic paper surface made from polypropylene pellets and manufactured in the United States. The pigments in the fluid watercolors were acquired worldwide.

O’Neil derives her inspiration from nature and within the creative process working with the media to allow the media to manifest itself.

O’Neil has two other exhibits scheduled this spring.

She will be at the 24th annual Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts at Sarasota, Fla., Feb. 18-19, and she will have another solo exhibit in the Coffee Grounds at Terre Haute from May 1-31.

O’Neil may be contacted at Roethele Art Studio at St. Mary-of-the-Woods at (812) 535-1018 or by email at joneil@spsmw.org. Her website is creationsights.org.
