Mystery author to speak in Rockville

Mystery author Tony Perona will visit the Rockville Public Library at 6:30 p.m. May 15 to talk about Dec. 21, 2012 — a date the Mayans say the world will end. This is a free program for the public.

His latest novel, “The Final Mayan Prophecy,” deals with the end of the Mayan calendar on Dec. 21 and offers a fictional take on what events might occur. He, and co-author Paul Skorich, use a variety of lore from Mayan and other cultures to pull together a thriller about good, evil, and the Mayan hope their god-king Kukulcan will be born at the end of time. Skorich is a Clinton native who is now a television producer in Hollywood.

Perona will discuss how the story came about, the screenplay he co-wrote with Skorich, their trials in Hollywood, and the eventual decision to turn it into a novel.

“It’s been a wild ride, and it’s not over yet,” Perona said.

Perona is better known for his mystery series about stay-at-home dad/freelance investigative reporter Nick Bertetto, who has a knack for solving mysteries that have a supernatural element. The three books in that series are “Second Advent,” “Angels Whisper” and “Saintly Remains.” The latter has been favorably reviewed by Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and Library Journal, which called it a “compelling read.”

Perona can be reached through his website at www.tonyperona.com.
