Kick off summer with Banks of Wabash Festival tonight

TERRE HAUTE — The 29th Annual Banks of the Wabash Festival will run from tonight through June 2 at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute. The festival offers bingo, crafters, food, nightly music, a merchandise mart and will feature Luehrs’ Rides and Midway Games.

Admission and parking are free.

The carnival and festival opens at 6 p.m. today, bargain night. All rides take only one ticket.

The festival will offer special deals on select nights, including “two-for one-day” and “pay-one-price wristband night.”

Bingo games will be played in a big tent located directly behind the food court area. Rest and relax and play some fun and friendly rounds of bingo. Proceeds will benefit the Pierson Township and Riley Lion’s Club, among others.

The bingo schedule is 6 to 10 p.m. May 24, 25, 29, 31 and June 1; and 2 to 10 p.m. May 26, 27, 28 and June 2.

Live music lineup:

Today

The Octane Band will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Octane calls itself the Wabash Valley’s Premier Party Rock Band and has become known for providing one of the most high-energy and crowd-pleasing shows in the area. Octane presents hits of all genres from the ’70s through the current charts and is guaranteed to keep listeners out of their chairs.

Friday

 The Ken Tucker Band will perform from 7 to  9 p.m. Tucker is a well-seasoned blues rocker in the tradition of the Allman Brothers, Joe Walsh, Georgia Satellites, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The Indiana-based band has made tremendous headway recently, winning Best Emerging Artist for its stage and recording prowess at the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival.

Saturday

The Scott Webster Band will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. The band is a modern country band, performing several of today’s top hits with a dash of rock ’n’ roll. Led by singer Scott Webster, the band delivers highly energetic songs from the likes of Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban, while also performing many of the classics.

Sunday

Gospel Music Day starts at 4 p.m. Gospel Music Day is organized and coordinated by Sam Glover and dedicated to the Founder of Gospel Music Day, nancy Rooney. Church choirs and praise teams will be on the stage during the afternoon and evening.

Monday

WTHI HI-99 presents the HI-99 Texaco Country Showdown at 5 p.m. Some of the biggest and brightest stars in country music got their start in the Texaco Country Showdown. Stars like Sara Evans, John Michael Montgomery, LeAnn Rimes, Toby Keith and Martina McBride all were participants. Perhaps the newest member to join the group will be one of the participants at this year’s HI-99/Texaco Country Showdown in Fairbanks Park during the Banks of the Wabash Festival.

The entertainment continues after the Texaco Showdown with the Midwest Playboys. The band will play from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This band plays favorite country tunes, a bit of rock and tunes from the ’50s and ’60s.

Tuesday

Terre Haute north and Terre Haute South Vigo High School Jazz Band night is from 7 to 9 p.m. Come out and enjoy an evening of jazz and swing music performed by students from Terre Haute north Vigo and Terre Haute South Vigo high schools.                   

Wednesday

Enjoy an evening of classic rock with the group Girlfriend Stella from 7 to 9 p.m.

May 31

Any Day But Sunday will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Any Day But Sunday has been together since June 2011. All members are veteran rockers, performing classic rock sure to bring back memories. This band specializes in tunes that are rarely heard on stages around the Wabash Valley. Gems like “Maybe I’m Amazed” (Paul McCartney), “It’s My Life” (Bon Jovi), and songs from nickelback, The Beatles, The Black Crows and even some Elvis will be featured.

June 1

Corey Cox will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Indianapolis-based Corey Cox makes a return visit to the Banks of the Wabash Festival. Cox opened for Sawyer Brown at this event in 2009.

June 2

The Wild West Band will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Based out of nashville Tenn., The Wild West Band is an award-winning recording and touring band. They have been on the independent chart for more than 135 straight weeks; including being ranked at no. 1 and having 11 Top Ten chart songs. They were nominated for the 2009 IMn Group Of The Year award, 2011 Group Of The Year Award and won the 2011 Impact Artist Of The Year Award. They play a variety of music, including classic rock, southern rock, Motown, blues, country, R&B and originals.
