Create a soybean necklace at museum

TERRE HAUTE — From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday Terre Haute Children’s Museum guests will get to make a soybean necklace and learn what seeds need to germinate and grow. The activity, which is free with museum admission, is part of a partnership between the museum and the Indiana Soybean Alliance to give museum guests the opportunity to learn more about soybeans.

In addition to sponsoring the programming for Soybean Sundays, the Soybean Alliance has added soybean displays to the Museum’s “Agciting” exhibit. The displays focus on the many uses of soybeans, as well as how soybeans are a major part of the safe, affordable food supply that consumers see on their grocery shelves every day. Children learn how soybeans are used as a source of protein in animal feed, an ingredient in the products they use every day, and they even learn about Hoosier ingenuity — like the development of the soy crayon and soy candle right here in Indiana.

The museum is at Eighth Street and Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute, and will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Regular admission is $7 for adults and children 2 and older, and admission is free for children up to 24 months. Members of the museum are also admitted for free.
