Conner Prairie offers unique Fourth of July family fun

FISHERS, Ind. — Take a trip to the past and participate in authentic Fourth of July fun straight from the 1800s during Glorious Fourth at Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, Indiana’s only Smithsonian affiliate. This three-day celebration happens Monday through Wednesday and includes patriotic games, crafts, songs, interactive militia drills and more.

Visitors will enjoy a bevy of new activities this year, including:

• The Presidents of the United States Show — Comedian-Magician Don Miller brings his talents to children and adults alike using comedy, stories and props to educate everyone about U.S. presidents.

• Family Play Area — Join in on patriotic fun including yard games such as croquet, horseshoes and sack racing.

• Patriotic Mural and Craft Area — Sign the Declaration of Independence with a real quill pen, make your own Statue of Liberty crown or torch and help paint one of several historical murals that showcase American pride and spirit.

• Rhythm Fun with Bill Bailey — Children can join in a patriotic jam session with percussion instruments and songs.

Along with the new activities, families and children will also enjoy annual favorites that include a reading of the Declaration of Independence, making and tasting muster cakes, playing games, storytelling, participating in militia musters, demonstrations and drills and more. For an additional fee, guests can shoot a blank round from a Civil War-era rifle of their choice.

Guests can also explore the newly-revitalized 1836 Prairietown, where festivities, games, songs and patriotic presentations will delight the whole family. Stay cool in River Crossing, a children’s play area in Civil War Journey complete with water tables, water cannons and a climbable steamboat. Inside, visitors can discover how machines work and build their own crazy contraptions as Science Lab presents “Make It Go!”

As a way to honor our nation’s military, all active-duty military personnel, veterans and up to five immediate family members with proper military ID will receive free admission to Glorious Fourth.

Glorious Fourth is presented by Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health North Hospital and runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14 for adults, $13 for seniors 65 and older, $9 for youth (ages 2 -12) and free for members and youth younger than 2. For more visit connerprairie.org.
