The Indianapolis Symphonic Band will perform its third outdoor concert at 7:30 p.m. July 21 at Fort Harrison State Park. The 45-minute concert will feature popular music from the 1950s through present day as performed by a symphonic wind band.
The Indianapolis Symphonic Band is made up of professional and amateur musicians from across central Indiana. The Symphonic Band is an organization of wind instruments whose concerts highlight a wide selection of music, from classical to pop. The Indianapolis Symphonic Band has been performing in the Indianapolis area for more than 50 years.
Fort Harrison State Park was once the Fort Harrison Military Reservation and has had a long history of outdoor concerts from military wind bands. The Indianapolis Symphonic Band has performed at Fort Harrison State Park for more than four years and continues a tradition of wind band performances at Fort Harrison that dates back to 1912. This season will mark the 100th anniversary of symphonic band performances at Fort Harrison.
The band concert will be outdoors on the state park sledding hill. Guests to the concert are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Concert attendees are also encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for seating, bug spray and snacks. This concert is pet and stroller friendly.
There is no cost to attend the program, but the normal IDNR $5/in-state or $7/out-of-state vehicle gate fee applies. For more information, contact the visitor’s center at (317) 591-0122.

NEW YORK — Annette Funicello, who became a child star as a perky, cute-as-a-button Mouseketeer on “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950s, then teamed up with Frankie Avalon in a string of ‘60s fun-in-the-sun movies with titles like “Beach Blanket Bingo” and “Bikini Beach,” died today. She was 70.
