Frontier Day Parade among Fourth of July celebrations

TERRE HAUTE — The 67th Annual Frontier Day Parade will take place Wednesday in downtown Terre Haute. The parade will form at 9 a.m. and move out at 9:30 a.m.

The Wabash Valley is invited to spend the day celebrating with Wabash Valley Horseman’s Association, beginning with the parade and continuing to the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.

The parking/staging area for the parade will be in the Indiana State University parking lots directly across from the 3rd Street Hardees Restaurant.

The parade route will be from Fourth Street to left on Wabash Avenue and past the reviewing stand at Seventh and Wabash. At Ninth Street, the parade turns left on Ninth, left on Mulberry, left on Eighth, right on Wabash, and returns to the ISU parking lots.

All parade participants must purchase and wear an entry number. Parade numbers are $3 each. Parade numbers will be available through 4 p.m. Tuesday at Boot City, Graham Feed and Morgan Feeds. Parade numbers will also be available at the parking lot the morning of the parade.  

After the parade, everyone proceeds to the Fairgrounds on U.S. 41 (back entrance will be open). The awards presentation will begin at noon. All participants must have their parade number and be wearing the same outfit from the parade to be eligible for an award. For a list of the award categories and descriptions visit www.wvha.info.  

Following the awards presentation will be an open horse show.

There will be games and prizes for all ages, including a boot/shoe race, an egg toss and a sack race. Those who want to participate in the games don’t have to have a horse.

A silent auction will feature items donated from local business and organizations. There will be concessions on the grounds for lunch.

Continue the Fourth of July celebration at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, with the Terre Haute Community Band at 8 p.m.

Saturday

Montezuma kicks off celebration early

The town of Montezuma is planning an Independence Day Celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Aztec Park.

Activities include:

• 10:30 a.m.: Baby registration at Aztec Park New Pavilion

• 11:30 a.m.: Parade lineup at Reeder Park

• Noon: Parade begins proceeding to Aztec Park

• Immediately following parade: Opening ceremony and flag raising followed by judging and announcement of Bay Contest, Little Miss and Mr. Firecracker, Princess, and Miss Independence at the New Pavilion at Aztec Park

• Noon to 8 p.m.: Small Town Fun Activities

• 4 to 7 p.m.: Country Rhodes Fish Fry at Montezuma Fire House

• Dusk: Fireworks display

Wednesday

Rockville to celebrate across town

Rockville will celebrate the Fourth of July on Wednesday with several activities around town.

The Ritz Theater will offer up free admission to “Happy Feet 2.” Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the movie begins at 10.

The National Bell Ringing Ceremony commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence will be at 1 p.m. on the square.

At Beechwood Park in Rockville veterans and their families can enjoy free admission to the pool. Free karaoke entertainment is planned from 2 to 5 p.m.  in the pavilion featuring the talents of Bil Knoblett. Copies of the Declaration of Independence and small U.S flags will be given out.

Today

Brazil Rotary Club carnival opens

A fleet of eight semi-trucks began delivering carnival equipment and rides Monday to begin setting up the 77th Annual Rotary Club of Brazil 4th of July Celebration in Forest Park.

The celebration kicked off at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and continues through the Fourth of July.

The celebration features Macaroni Family Attractions Amusements carnival.

Approximately 21 carnival rides were scheduled for Brazil’s celebration, plus skill games, thrill attractions and food booths to be set up and ready for action, said carnival manager Josh Macaroni.

But any time new features are obtained they try to get them onto the midway as soon as possible.

Rides originally scheduled for the celebration this year include a unique Gondola-style LED lighted Ferris Wheel, plus these favorites: Merry-go-round, Slide, Funny Farm, Ring of Fire, Dizzy Dragons, Kite Flyer, Windjammer, Badlands, Alpine Bobs, the YoYo, Pirates’ Bluff ship, Duck Boats, Scooters, the Spider, the Train, Sea-Ray, Scrambler, two Bounce rides, a 32-foot bungy ride and Water-balls.

Macaroni said the bungy ride is new, plus he anticipates the newest attraction, a 75-foot zip line ride, should arrive in time for Brazil’s Celebration, too.

Daily arm band tickets are $20. Single tickets will also be sold a ticket booths in the park.

The midway will feature traditional family skill-and challenge games. Carnival food vendors will have exclusive food sales on the midway through Sunday.

Starting Monday, local non-profit food vendors will join the carnival and supplement dining options with expanded food options when the midway opens at 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the chance at a $10,000 grand prize July 4, those who qualify to purchase a raffle ticket in the 4th of July Celebration also get a chance to win some great door prizes, made possible by donations from local business and organizations.

Tickets are only sold from Rotary Headquarters at Forest Park during midway hours. The cost of one ticket is $5 or three tickets for $10.

Prize donors will be posted on www.brazilrotary.org and at Rotary Headquarters.

Proceed from the celebration, which is the only fundraiser by the Rotary Club of Brazil, helps financially support valuable community projects each year.
