Register now for Children’s Museum camps

TERRE HAUTE — From wacky science and space exploration to fairy tales and superheroes, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum has scheduled an exciting list of summer programs.

The camps, which are packed with themed activities, experiments and lessons from all areas of science, are designed to inspire children and awaken their curiosity in the exploration and interaction with science and technology.

Camps will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Friday,  during the weeks of June 12, 19 and 26; and July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Each will include a variety of hands-on, educational activities designed according to the camp’s unique theme.

Students can choose from the following camp weeks and themes:

• The Force Academy, June 12-15 or June 19-22: This camp is for children entering second through fifth grade and focuses on the real star wars – space. Learn about rockets, space food and robots, and there may even be some light saber lessons.

• Sampler Science, June 26-29 or July 10-13: Sampler Science is a great way for children entering kindergarten through first grade to get a small dose of all that science has to offer. Explore space, chemical reactions, and even try your hand at the Minute to Win It game.

• Mad Science, July 17-20: Children entering second through fifth grade are invited to put on their safety goggles and learn about solids, liquids and gasses. Campers will use the knowledge they have learned to make decisions on mystery powders, and they will even get to watch some things explode.

• Reality Show Camp, July 24-27: Do you have a competitive child entering second through fifth grade that loves game shows? Send them to Reality Show Camp to spend time doing crazy stunts seen on television and learn about the science behind the challenges. Each day will feature a different reality television show with different tasks and missions to compete.

• Heroes and Heroines, July 31-Aug. 3: Children entering second through fifth grade will explore the world of fairytales and superheroes while learning about the science behind the tales. Campers will learn if people can really fly, if a poisonous apple can make someone fall asleep, and they will even determine whether Spiderman can really climb buildings.

Each week of camp is $90 for members of the museum and $100 for non-members. Looking for a discount? Send the museum a copy of the child’s most recent report card. Children will receive $2 off total cost for every A and B they earn.
