Bridgeton hosts Mountain Man Rendezvous on Saturday, Sunday

Bridgeton —

Bridgeton will host its 20th annual Mountain Man Rendezvous from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Come out and enjoy a taste of authentic pre-1840s living in a beautiful historic setting.

Walk through the Mountain Man encampment complete with trading posts and pioneer goods for sale. Watch live black powder muzzle loader shooting, a primitive bow shoot, a canoe race on Raccoon Creek, and knife and tomahawk throwing demonstrations. There will be a colonial tea party, pioneer crafters at work and plenty of authentic old-time activities for the kids.

Join the Bridgeton Volunteer Fire Department for a Jonah Fish Fry from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy the fish and fixins at the New Firehouse. For lunch visit the Bridgeton Country Store, Collom’s General Store or the Mill Snackshop for a variety of goodies.

Stop by the 1822 Case Log Cabin for a lesson in authentic pioneer hearth cooking includingthe popular “chicken-on-a-string.” Visit the Bridgeton Grist Mill for a live 1800s corn grinding demonstration and try some fresh stone-ground Parke County products. Stop by the Hen House Coffee Shop at Barnes’ Antiques and check out the nostalgic die-cast auto collection. Visit the 1878 Barn for vendors and shop at the 1878 House, Ye Olde Covered Bridge Shoppe, and other stores in town. And don’t forget to take a stroll through the Bridgeton Covered Bridge.
