See ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ on stage Monday at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as Indiana State University’s Performing Arts Series gears up for the Monday performance of “Miracle on 34th Street.” ISU’s Tilson Auditorium will ring out with the sounds of the holidays as famed composer Meredith Willson’s holiday classic, inspired by the 1940’s movie of the same name, comes to life on stage at 7:30 p.m.

A quintessential Christmas story, “Miracle on 34th Street” follows Doris Walker and her daughter Susan as they meet Kris Kringle, an adorable elderly man claiming to be Santa Claus. Cynical Susan’s disbelief in Santa and pragmatic outlook on life are tested as Kris works to achieve miracles and make everyone’s Christmas extra special. By incorporating “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and other classic music by Meredith Willson, creator of “The Music Man,” with lines directly from the popular film, “Miracle on 34th Street” has been a beloved holiday favorite for years.

Produced by Troupe America, a touring group with more than 25 years of experience performing musicals and comedies across North America, “Miracle on 34th Street” promises audiences a professional show complete with an exciting set, period costumes and excellent choreography.

As part of the ISU Performing Arts Series, audience members are also in for a treat before the performance. Families are welcome to have their picture taken with Santa, listen to carols sung by the Northview High School Choir and enjoy the festive atmosphere pre-show. Caroling and pictures will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room just outside Tilson Auditorium. Toys for Tots will also be collecting donations at this event.

Tickets for “Miracle on 34th Street” are on sale now through the Hulman Center Ticket Office, over the phone at 1-800-745-3000, or online through TicketMaster.com. Prices begin at $18 for adults and $5 for youth. Indiana State University faculty and staff prices begin at $10, and all ISU students are admitted free with valid student ID.

More information on the performance can be found at www.hulmancenter.org.
