Christian impressionist brings ‘Voices of Change’ to Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE — Christian vocal impressionist Michael Kelley will present his show, “Voices of Change,” on Wednesday at First Congregational Church, 630 Ohio St.

The show, which is described as “full of fun and clean laughter for the whole family,” is a musical journey through the decades of the 1960s through the 1990s. Kelley sings and changes his voice, from Kermit the Frog to Elvis and many more. His show started out as a vocal impressionist show when he worked with Princess Cruises.

He wants his music to relate to all groups of people, and so he started performing popular secular songs from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, but with a Christian message. By using more than 50 of his favorite singers, actors and politicians, Kelley gives his testimony throughout the show about how God has taken him through the ups and downs of his life. Although some of the songs weren’t penned as “Christian” songs, Kelley has altered the songs. For example, Ray Charles’s “I’ve Got a Woman” is now “I’ve Got a Savior.” Tom Jones’ “Delilah” has been changed to a Samson and Delilah version. Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” is now “In His Word Again.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7 in the sanctuary. Tickets are $10 per person and proceeds will benefit the Families By Choice, Senior Education Ministries and First Congregational Church.  Businesses may purchase blocks of tickets and will be acknowledged for sponsorship.

Tickets are available at Mic’s Pics, 667 Wabash Ave., and Furniture Gallery, 5050 South Seventh St., prior to the show, or by contacting Families By Choice at (812) 230-4401, First Congregational Church at (812) 232-8880, or Senior Education Ministries at (812) 230-7772. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Families by Choice looks to support families in the months following a crisis. It offers shelter and support for homeless people in Terre Haute through two homes: Deborah’s House, a transitional facility that provides a safe environment for young mothers and their children, and Timothy’s House, a transitional home for young men leaving foster care.

Senior Education Ministries is a faith-based, nonprofit organization serving the senior citizen communities first in Vigo County, then extending to communities throughout the state of Indiana, and to neighboring senior communities in Illinois.
