TERRE HAUTE — The Swope Art Museum presents the “40th Annual Student Art Exhibition” from April 14 to May 12. This year, 233 artworks were submitted by 239 students from 38 area schools.
The public is invited to an opening reception 1 to 3 p.m. April 14. High-school awards will be presented at 2.
The juror for this year’s exhibit was West Lafayette art instructor and artist Louie Laskowski. Laskowski chose 26 award winners. “It was a pleasure judging the artwork of so many talented students,” she said. “The drawing category was the most successful category. It had the strongest pieces and produced the Best of Show. I also greatly enjoyed the photography and digital work, as some very creative efforts were made. I would like to compliment all of the teachers and students who entered this show. It is hard work to organize and prepare for a competition such as this. By the number of excellent works entered by so many students, I can see why the arts are healthy in this region.”
This exhibition was sponsored by Old National Bank.
