See ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ at Boot City Opry

TERRE HAUTE — National touring and recording artist Robert Shaw and his Lonely Street Band will present their critically acclaimed production “Heartbreak Hotel — A Salute to Young Elvis” on Saturday at the Boot City Opry.

The concert features  young Elvis belting out hits from the first part of his career, starting in the mid-1950s through the early ’60s. The show kicks off with Elvis’ first recordings at Sun Studios in Memphis (“That’s All Right Mama,” “Good Rockin’ Tonight”), through his chart-topping years at RCA records (“Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog”) and even highlighting The King’s hits from his first movies (“Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me Tender”). The show is full of humor, hip-swiveling and toe-tapping fun.

Shaw, born in Southeast Indiana and raised in a musical family, began performing at the age of 10 when he discovered the trumpet. As a freshman in high school he realized that musical theatre was his true passion and began studying voice, acting and dancing. Shaw attended the University of The Arts in Philadelphia, which prepared him for new opportunities performing at theme parks, performing arts centers and prestigious venues across the country.

In 1998 Shaw accepted an offer to perform the role of Elvis at the historic Gaslight Theatre in Tucson, Ariz. Audiences loved him and he was led to create a series of specialized Elvis programs, celebrating the many musical and visual stages of Elvis’ career.
