Terre Haute Symphony opens season Sept. 29; announces lineup

TERRE HAUTE — Join Terre Haute Symphony for its season opener Sept. 29 featuring Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, known for having one of the most heart-warming French horn solos in the repertoire and ending with an explosion of musical color. The addition of Mozart and Karidoyanes is sure to make the concert a memorable experience.

Then, Nov. 3 the THSO will perform the world premiere of Dan Powers’ Viola Concerto and Rossini’s famous William Tell Overture. The work includes a popular cello solo. The concert will end with the famous Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

As the weather turns colder, enjoy an annual tradition with favorite holiday music Dec. 1. Music will include “White Christmas,” Bugler’s “Holiday” and more. On March 23 the symphony celebrates Keltonic’s appealing film music — a tribute to heroes who have made a difference by leading their people to freedom, inspired by a famous Lech Walesa quote.

Wrapping up the THSO’s season will be the Year of the River performance on April 20. In collaboration with the community-wide yearlong celebration, the performance will feature music inspired by rivers around the world, including The Moldau, Blue Danube Waltz, Wabash Portrait and more.

Free “Family Time” concerts will be presented from 2 to 2:30 p.m. during Saturday dress rehearsals at Tilson Auditorium. No tickets or reservations are required.

Also, enjoy dining with other patrons at “Supper at the Symphony” events beginning at 5:30 p.m. before each show. Call 812-242-8476 to receive menu information and to make reservations.
