TERRE HAUTE —
The Terre Haute Children’s Museum has been operating in its new home at Eighth Street and Wabash Avenue for nearly one year, and to celebrate, the museum is planning a Birthday Bash with discounted admission prices and special appearances by Silly Safaris, Spider-Man and some one-of-a-kind LEGO MINDSTORMS creations.
The museum’s Birthday Bash will take place today through Sunday; admission will be discounted to $5 per person each day. Admission is free for members of the museum.
Want to get really close to some amazing animals? The museum will present a live animal show with Silly Safaris at 6 p.m. today. Silly Safaris funologist Coyote Chris will bring to the museum a variety of animals, including mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and bugs, to teach audience members about nature. Some lucky guests will get to join Coyote Chris on stage. Seating is limited to the first 100 guests.
Spider-Man will web his way into the museum to teach kids about the importance of physical fitness and staying healthy. The “Staying Fit with Spider-Man” program will be presented at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. During the presentations, audience members will discover that even Spider-Man has to eat healthy and exercise. Seating at this show is also limited to 100 guests per show.
LEGO enthusiasts are invited to join the museum for a unique display of LEGO MINDSTORMS projects on Sunday. Guests will have an opportunity to play MONSTER CHESS, a computerized chess game played with LEGO robots on a 10- by-10-foot LEGO board. It took a year for four people to put Monster Chess together at a cost of around $30,000. Guests will also get to interact with a scale model of the NASA Space Shuttle. The shuttle, which was built by Andrew Milluzzi, a student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, has 11 motors and 12 sensors giving the user control of the arm, flaps, rudder, ailerons, cargo doors and roll of the orbiter. The forward and rear thrusters also light up. Other LEGO creations also will be on display.
The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
