BLOOMFIELD —
Better voter turnout is expected this fall, as Greene County participation topped 25 percent Tuesday.
According to information provided by the Greene County Clerk’s office, 5,104 citizens out of 20,346 registered voters participated in Tuesday’s primary election, representing 25.09 percent.
Greene County Clerk Susan Fowler said there were no problems at the polls in her county, and overall turnout seemed normal for a primary. The only local race contested in both parties was that for county council at-large, and that served as the primary draw Tuesday, she said.
“We expect more in the fall,” she said, noting the presidential election between Democrat Barack Obama and presumptive Republican challenger Mitt Romney should generate considerable activity.
Election results are unofficial until certified by the Greene County Election Board by noon on May 18.
