TERRE HAUTE —
Incumbent 8th District U.S. congressman Larry Bucshon was defeating his Republican challenger, Kristi Risk, by the same margin that Richard Mourdock was defeating Richard Lugar — 60 percent to 40 percent — with 296 of 667 precincts reporting at about 8 p.m. today.
With 44 percent of the vote counted across the congressional district, Bucshon had 15,094 voters to Risk’s 9,979.
Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Sullivan High School graduate Dave Crooks led by an even larger margin in the 8th District, having received 62 percent of the vote in a contest against Thomas Barnett and William Bryk.
With 287 (43 percent) of 667 precincts counted, Crooks had 11,487 votes to Barnett’s 5,312 and Bryk’s 1,631.
In Vigo County, with all of its 87 precincts counted, Bucshon recorded 3,757 votes to Risk’s 2,474.
Among Democrats in Vigo County, Crooks had 3,334 votes, Barnett had 2,257 and Bryk had 842.
If Bucshon and Crooks end up winning — as it appears they will — they would face each ot her in fhe general election in November.
