TERRE HAUTE —
With more than half of the vote counted in the opposed Democratic primary race for the Indiana state Representative District 46 nomination, Terre Haute teacher James Mann II held a significant lead tonight over Terre Haute union president Chuck Toth and a gigantic lead over a third candidate, Ellettsville resident Larry Barker.
With 27 (56 percent) of 48 precincts reporting, Mann had 961 votes to Toth’s 577 and Barker’s 236.
In Vigo County’s 87 precincts Mann won with 788 votes, to Toth’s 460 and Barker’s 160.
The incumbent, Republican Bob Heaton of Terre Haute, was unopposed for his party’s nomination.
If Mann holds on to win, he will face Heaton in the fall’s general election.
The 46th district includes all or parts of Vigo, Clay, Owen and Monroe counties.
