Walter L. Feller

Walter L. Feller, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, in his residence. He was born in Vandalia, Ill., on March 6, 1930, to Walter L. Feller Sr. and Millicent Gould Feller. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired firefighter and former assistant chief for the Terre Haute City Fire Department. He is survived by two sons, Walter L. Feller III and Jeffrey A. Feller; one stepson, Robert Holewa; and one stepdaughter, Diane McConaha. He also is survived by his sister, Carolyn Feller Couch (and husband Donald); as well as six grandchildren, Walter J. Feller, Colter L. Feller, Chadrick D. Feller, Trevor D.W. Feller, Devin A. Feller, and Ryan J. Feller. Also surviving are 18 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of 55 years, Helen L. Briggs Feller; one sister, Margaret Feller; and one daughter-in-law, Starla K. Feller.

Memberships include past president and life member of the Kerman Grotto Outdoor Recreation Club, The Kerman Grotto, Krietenstein Post 104 American Legion, Voiture 40/8, Indiana Firefighters Association, Social Lodge 86 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and the Marine Corps League.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with services conducted by Post 104. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Friday. Immediately following services at the funeral home, a celebration of life will be held at Krietenstein Post 104 American Legion Post.
