TERRE HAUTE —
Mark Cook will be performing with his Cook-N-Blues band this weekend at the Blu Katt Lounge in downtown Terre Haute.
The band will perform from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. today and Saturday at the bar at 665 Wabash Ave., and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Brazil Eagles Lodge, 122 E. National Ave.
Cook, a former Terre Haute resident now living in Atlanta, is a nationally-recognized guitarist and recording artist.
His blues band consists of members Adam Moraga on vocals and bass, Brad Dart on drums and Cook on guitar. John Discensco fills in for Dart at some Indiana gigs and will be joining the band for its Wabash Valley performances this weekend.
The band, formed in Terre Haute in 2001, performs weekly in Atlanta and likes to return home to Terre Haute at least a couple times a year.
“I feel it’s important to come back and see all of our friends and fans that we have built up over the years,” Cook said. “We have the best blues fans and friends who have been following the Cook-N-Blues band since its start.
“Some have even made the road trip to see the band perform in Atlanta. Wendy [Cook’s wife] and I are from this area so it is always great coming back to see everyone.”
Back in Atlanta, Cook spends a lot of time recording in his home studio and practicing with his band along with teaching at two music stores.
Cook’s original songs have served as background music for movies and television shows. His song “Down with the Blues” from his award-winning album “The Promise Highway” earned a spot on the soundtrack of the TNT show “Memphis Beat.” His songs also have been used on ABC’s “Lost,” TNT’s “Saving Grace,” and MTV’s “True Life” and “Camped Out.”
His recording of “Nasty Old Feeling” adorned the trailer for the Nicolas Cage film “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” while his “Blue Voodoo” song was featured in the movie “Buried Alive,” starring Tobin Bell. Cook also has earned multiple spots on the Discovery Channel show “Auction Kings,” “G4” on Tech TV and Fox Sports.
