Men of Note to offer ‘Let’s Dance’ on one Sunday each month

TERRE HAUTE — The Men of Note & Claudia is composed of seven highly-trained professional musicians and a female vocalist and has performed successfully for a wide variety of audiences throughout central Indiana and Illinois. Each member is outstanding in his own right, with an impressive list of musical background credits.

The personnel are Dalvin Boone, trumpet 1; George Graesch, trumpet 2, and leader Matthew Balensuela, alto saxophone, clarinet and flute; Norman Hanson, trombone; David Gibbs, piano; Mark Ford, bass; James Thistle, percussion; and Claudia Fulwiler, vocals.

This group blends the music of the ’40s through the ’90s with the “big band” sound, and the result is a delightful musical experience for listeners and dancers alike. A full sound is accomplished through the band’s special arrangements, all of which are specially written to enhance the particular talents of the individual members.

Each musical performance includes swing, ballads, polkas, waltzes, Latin rhythms, country and dixieland.

The newest feature of an evening with the Men of Note is “Let’s Dance” featuring Bo and Pixie Boedecker, ballroom dance instructors, at The Landing at Fort Harrison.

This feature is presented one Sunday night each month except December. The first performance is this Sunday and will include 5:30 p.m. dancing instruction with Bo and Pixie and a 6 p.m. buffet including salad and dessert.

Then from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. dance to the music of the Men of Note Band & Claudia.

Tickets are $20 per person and $40 per couple and include all activities.

Bo and Pixie began ballroom dancing in 1988 under the instruction of professional instructor Sandy Lampert and later with Pat Lyttaker, also a professional ballroom dance instructor in Springfield, Ill.

Both instructors are schooled in Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire style of ballroom dance.

Later, Bo & Pixie began assisting Pat Lyttaker and also began performing exibition ballroom dances at various clubs throughout central Illinois.

After moving to Kansas, Ill., in 1977, Bo and Pixie started their own ballroom dance classes. They have taught classes at various locations across the Wabash Valley.

Their objective when teaching ballroom dance is to provide a solid foundation of the basics while keeping the atmosphere light and making sure all students (old and young) have fun and enjoy themselves.

They also feel it’s important for their students to get a good workout while they learn. They teach many different ballroom dances including East Coast Swing, Fox Trot, Waltz, Cha Cha, Rhumba, Night Club Two Step, West Coast Swing and Tango.

The Landing is at 3350 N. 4th St. Call (812) 460-4000 for more information.
