Marie McGlone and her fiddle have impressed listeners from the Midwest to the South, in concert and through recordings.
In September, she’ll entertain folks in her Illinois hometown. McGlone will perform from 7:05 to 7:45 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Marshall Autumn Fest at the gazebo bandstand on the Clark County Courthouse lawn.
Performing with McGlone will be her father, Jim, and her Mill Creek Band, consisting of bluegrass/jazz bassist Gerald Gordy of Robinson, Ill.; nationally recognized banjoist Devin Tower, of Orman Beach, Fla.; and internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and instructor Keith Yoder on mandolin.
Since age 7, McGlone has performed at festivals, charitable benefit shows, nursing homes, schools, churches and parties, and competed in contests in four different states. She has placed or won contests in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois, including back to back championships in Illinois in 2006 and 2007.
McGlone also has performed with several nationally recognized bands, including James King and Grammy Award-winner Ralph Stanley.
She loves performing and brings a contagious energy to the stage with her playing and singing. Her original fiddle instructor referred to her as “Little Miss Intensity.”
McGlone was also mentioned and pictured in the documentary book “Images of America, Kentucky’s Blue Grass Music,” written and compiled by James Claypool. Several years ago, while performing as a weeklong guest at the Tunes and Tales program in Gatlinburg, Tenn., McGlone was introduced to the music of Mountain Heart and Jim VanCleve’s creatively intense fiddle style. She was immediately hooked and, after meeting VanCleve several times and participating in one of his workshops, he agreed to produce her first album, “Listen to My Heart,” which was released in October 2010. The CD was referred to as a “minor masterpiece” by the editors of the internationally published periodical, Bluegrass Unlimited.
McGlone is now a sophomore at Marshall High School.
