SPRINGFIELD, MO. —
Indiana State’s women’s soccer team had to win at Missouri State on Thursday to assure itself a spot in next week’s Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
It took overtime, but the Sycamores pulled it off.
Taylor Reed’s overtime goal lifted the Sycamores to a 1-0 overtime victory over the host Bears.
With the victory, ISU finished 2-3-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores tied the Bears, who had the same MVC record, and won the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The top six teams in the MVC Tournament make the field. However, seventh-place Creighton is the host school and is guaranteed a spot. ISU’s win vaulted the Sycamores to fifth place, which was effectively the last spot in the tournament.
ISU (7-9-2 overall) will begin MVC Tournament action in Omaha, Neb. on Sunday. Tournament match-ups were not available at press time.
