Kelsey Luna of Indiana State was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for women’s basketball for games through Sunday, the league office announced Monday. The honor is Luna’s first of the 2009-10 season and the second of her Sycamore career.
Luna had a career-high 37 points in 38 minutes of work on Saturday, leading Indiana State to a 77-73 win at Kansas State.
She smashed the 1,000-point milestone in the first game of her senior season and now stands at 1,019 points as a Sycamore. She went 15 for 21 (.714) in field goal range and 5 for 6 in free throws against the Wildcats, while adding a pair of 3-point shots. Luna also had a steal, an assist and two rebounds to her credit.
Bradley freshman Katie Yohn was also named MVC Newcomer of the Week.
Indiana State returns to action on Thursday at Furman.
